Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works by manipulation and massage of the feet and hands to help heal the whole person, rather than the prevailing symptoms.
It has been seen in manuscripts from Ancient Egypt, India and China. It was introduced to the West by Dr William Fitzgerald in 1913. He found that reflex areas of the feet and hands were linked to other parts of the body. This was refined and expanded into its current form by Eunice Ingham in the 1930s, when she observed that tension or congestion in a part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body, and so treating the feet or hands would have a relaxing and healing effect on the rest of the body.
Reflexology can be used to restore and maintain the body’s balance. It is a gentle, non-invasive approach which encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own health.
Reflexology is effective in the treatment of:
Back pain
Chronic pain
Arthritis
Migraine
Sports injuries
Infertility
Sleep disorders
Hormonal imbalances
Digestive problems
Stress and stress-related conditions
Reflexology is not a cure for medical conditions or diseases.
